Operation Youth Movement: Phase III

I can't really specify when and where Phases I & II took place. I just made all of this up. I am, however, pleased with Mr. Butler's debut. Ballsy move by Dayton Moore. It was a bit optimistic of me to think we might take game one of the series against the AL champs last night, after snatching two Ws from the California Anaheim Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Los Angeles Angels. The few innings I caught during the debauchery-free, entirely sober second phase of my bachelor party contained some excellent pitching on the part of the Royals. And by excellent, I mean putrid. At least ol' Billy continues to swing the stick well. Yay True. Go Blue. Viva Tradition. Phew.

This is not a comment regarding the post, but a comment nonetheless.

I am sick of the Barry Bonds bashing. I have been for 3 years. If people want to get angry ... get angry at Bud Selig.

I am pleased with the recent poll results, and think Stark hit the nail on the head.

Take a look:

Everyone's entitled to their own opinions, I suppose. I happen to disagree. He's implying that white fans don't want Bonds to break the record because he's black. That's retarded. I'm sure some feel that way, but if they do, what's their stance on the fact that it's already held by a black man?

People don't want Bonds to break the record because they feel he cheated. Hank Aaron is one of those guys. I don't have a beef with Bonds, but I think he's handled a lot of this stuff much like Pete Rose handled gambling allegations. We have no proof, per se, that Bonds has used. We do, however, have everything but.

Not a month goes by without something new surfacing either. ALL signs point to him having used. I think that's far worse than betting on sports. Lying about it is even worse, though. And that's the kicker.

Bud Selig is to blame for many things wrong about baseball during his tenure. The game itself though, is on the rise again, improving with every game, every season. People are into it again, and Bud's still in office.

If you want to talk about something that's tired, talk about the fact that black baseball fans are drubbing up the notion of anti-Bonds sentiments being an issue of race. That, my dear reader, is old.

The only point Stark makes is that we should respect the numbers. That's where I think he's right, and the numbers are interesting.

However, I'm not sure you understand my stance.

Performance drugs have been rampant in baseball for at least 15 years. Barry Bonds is not alone in his sins. You don't think the pitchers he faces juice? How 'bout the outfielders chasin' down the liners in the gap?

Point is, it's a league problem, and persecuting one player is absurd and embarassing. This happened during Bud Selig's watch. He is the league's leader, and inherent in leadership is accountability. He is, by any respectable definition, accountable for this sad state of MLB.

Sadly, Bud Selig comes from the same self-serving mold as our very own GWJr. Neither one of them has the balls to take responsibility.
