We Are Hot Chicks Wednesday: Summer School

Mid-June is always a peculiar time of the year. Families are adapting to the school's-out schedule. Some are vacationing. Some are not doing anything different at all. While a change of season dictates change of lifestyle for some, there are those that keep plugging away at the same old thing, year after year after year. Like the guys in this movie. I was toying around a couple of weeks ago with our NetFlix queue when I stumbled across "The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters." Instantly I was intrigued.

Though I imagined the storyline to be a bit different than it was, I still sat through all 82 minutes of it, more awestruck than entertained. Ultimately, I don't care about all the whinings being documented here; I definitely sided with the Steve Wiebe party in the story, and felt most everyone else involved to be complete and utter tools, especially this guy. At the conclusion, all I could really wrap my head around was the time and energy invested in reputations associated with Donkey Kong. And I gotta say, I felt pretty durn smart. Not because I am, but because there're lots of people out there doing their parts being pretty dumb. Which is why my vote is to stay in school, kids, even in the summer. That's right. Want to tally some college credits before you're a freshman? Courses in July. Fail Geometry? Be prepared to take it again, while it's hot out. Are you just one of those really, really bad kids that can't fulfill your punishments with after-school and Saturday-school detentions? Gear up for summer school. There are lots of good reasons why, and I'll share a few of them, after the jump.

Melissa Puente

When Alice Cooper wrote "School's Out for Summer," he embodied the antithesis of Mr. Nice Guy. Little did he know that Melissa Puente would be receptioning,

Kayden Kross

or that Kayden Kross would be teaching,

Mia

or that the lovely Mia would be stationed down the hall in the teacher's lounge.

Gabriella Barros

I mean lounging on a pool raft always makes for good times,

but there's a serious side to the summer months, too. Just ask Miss Barros.

Sara Santos

Sara Santos says that a good mix of education and exercise makes for a healthier, longer life.

Leisure, taken in small doses, is good for the mind and soul,

but the muscles other than the brain have got to be stretched and worked as well,

especially when you're talking about kickball on a bowling lane.

Gabriella Lupin

For the struggling summer student, Miss Lupin knows that it takes dedication to achieve.

When mixed with positive reinforcement, there's plenty of room for accomplishment.

Heather Summers

This mantra is true for both the confident and the timid.

Sometimes a bit of beckoning brings out the brilliance in a pupil.

Other times, it might be advantageous to demonstrate from a different perspective.

Kelly Brook

Kelly knows that an apple (or two) for the teacher is a bit nostalgiac, yet still influential.

The gesture suggests that you, the student, are poised and ready for learning.

Nyx Ortega

Confused in the classroom? Make like Nyx, get that hand up, and be ready with your question.

It'll only help in the long run if you shed that timid skin.

Be specific and illustrate which part you need to see more of in order to appreciate the lesson.

Ashley Dorenzo

In the end, you'll hit the summer-school showers with pride,

feel poised with readiness for the upcoming year,

sly and intelligent for the possible edge on your classmates,

and eager to leave last year's uniform behind.

It's a tough haul, but well worth it.

Unless of course you enjoy reviewing the same material

over and over and over again, which in some cases,

might not be such a bad thing. You never know.

And there's the bell. Let's hit the playground running. I hear the Gorilla Masks are taking on the DailyNiners in Four Square.
