Tuesday Tidbits

I hit the snooze bar a few too many times this morning and wound up with not enough time to finish this post before heading out. Thus, I'm left to scamper up to the office, hole away for a few minutes and wrap it up. And it's completely full of material I didn't come up with. Yup, another link dump. But hey, some worthwhile reading until the next time, which might be later on. Like after hours and whatnot. Until then...

The Big Lead shares an interesting The Washington Post story regarding David Simon of HBO's "The Wire" fame regarding a scene filmed at Camden Yards. It (MLB) has left a not-so-pleasant taste in his mouth.

Awful Announcing suggests that the Australians, be it a one-time accident or no, find that porn and rugby go together?

The newly edited Spinsters of Dead share the fabulous news that Ana Ivanovic is on the cover of FHM. Full spread(s) available here and here.

With Leather advises us that hockey is funnier with Frenchmen skating...uh, not on ice...

And the wily scoopmeisters at Kissing Suzy Kolber suggest that Bill Belichick is even mean to nice guys. Guys as nice as Tony Dungy.

David Simon is brilliant, but he's grumpy as shit. Hates everything. So it's no surprise that he hates MLB.

And I really wish that his first post-Wire project wasn't based on the Iraq War. Doesn't anyone realize you can't make these kinds of films while the conflict is still going on? Did any of the seminal Vietnam movies happen before the end of the war?

Good point. And no, I don't think that anyone does. It seems that -- and it makes sense given the vast outpouring of Web sites, blogs, screenwriters, and authors in general -- war-related material has been pouring out of the collective keyboards since the conflict was about two and-a-half years old.

Such a body of work would be much more concise if some time was allowed to pass before delving in to such a project.

And no, I don't think any 'Nam flicks were released prior to its "ending."

Sure there were--they were just propaganda joints like John Wayne's "The Green Berets."

Actually, that might have been about the only one. Wayne was drinking hairspray by that point.
