Tradition Tuesday: HoGnation #2 Wideouts Sliding Into The One Spot?

The rough focus of this blog is the rivalry between the Kansas City Chiefs (heralded by Bankmeister) and the Denver Broncos (championed by Cecil and Old No. 7). It may seem unfair that it's two versus one, but once KC gets that second Super Bowl win we'll even out the delegation.

Seven years ago we started The Tradition, in which Bronco fans travel out to the Truman Sports Complex with their team, and Chief-lovers return to the Rocky Mountains with theirs. We tailgate, we talk massive amounts of shit, our wives are occasionally assaulted by rival fans, and we almost always watch the visiting team lose. It's a grand old time.

Here at the HoG, we're going to keep The Tradition going with Tradition Tuesday--a weekly state-of-the-rivalry address.

Over in splenDenver, a pass catcher known as Brandon Marshall has been tallying some stats that could pan out to make Javon Walker's look smaller. Here in Kansas City, the injury to Eddie Kennison, and the apparitionesque performance of Samie Parker have forced rookie WR Dwayne Bowe up the ranks, a fact that has borne some nice results. Let's have a look at this foursome of route runners through the first quarter of the season.

Headed into week five, Mr. Marshall has 20 catches for 290 yards and two scores, while his big-money receiver teammate doesn't boast one less catch, 60 fewer yards and no scores. D. Bowe, through three starts, has 18 grabs, 299 yards and three scores, compared to Parker's eight snags, 90 yards and nary a TD. Kennison, of course, adds his one injury-resulting reception to that mix for less than half of Bowe's output.

We ask you, coveted readers: What, if anything, is to be made of these stats? Are the wily veterans losing out? Can they regain ground from their younger counterparts? How does a soon-to-return-from-the-PUP Rod Smith factor in in the orange and blue's offensive gameplan? Will Jeff Webb add to his four catches and 59 yards on the red-and-gold side of the ball?

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop? Is O.J. crazy? Will there be home cooking in Avalanche and Rockies games this year, too? We've attached this handy little comment form below for the well-informed to, well...you know, comment.
