We Are Hot Chicks Wednesday: A Brand New Day
Well. It's now officially official. Scott Pioli and Clark Hunt just concluded the new Chiefs General Manager's introductory press conference, and it was a doozy. Members of the media were asked to introduce themselves before the question-and-answer segment got underway, and a few of those members were kind enough to sit down with our House of Georges star reporter on their way out of the facility. Get their take after the jump.
Abigail Clancy
Miss Clancy appreciated the genuineness of the conference.
Ashley Day
Miss Day had a bit more to say, specifically that Pioli's assertion that his decision not to take other offers wasn't about those organizations, but that it was about this one, the one for whom he wanted to work.
Bianca Holland
Bianca was impressed by all the kind words Pioli had to offer toward the Hunt family,
Catrinel Menghia
while Catrinel dug the fact that the new GM found the opportunity "not daunting," but "an exciting opportunity," one with "a great community and ownership."
Chandra North
Chandra North wasn't surprised to hear that Pioli thought that coach Herman Edwards is a "fine man," one he'll "continue to spend some time talking with."
Charlie Laine
Charlie was annoyed that some media members continued to press the issue. "If there was an announcement to make, we'd make it," Pioli said. He added that it wouldn't be "fair to set a time table" as this is a "process that takes time."
Dyana Razinn
Veteran reporter Dyana Razinn respected the statement that the "relationship between a GM and a head coach is one that must be both professional and personal."
Helena Christensen
Helena took interest in the time table for making the coaching decision, one Pioli said he wasn't concerned with; the notion of "other candidates getting away" doesn't bother him.
Kaytee Bates
Kaytee Bates wasn't surprised to learn that the coaching factor was a part of the interview. She was, however, shocked to discover that Clark Hunt and Pioli's first interview lasted nine hours, and that the coaching discussion didn't take much time in that first segment.
Michelle Baker
Miss Baker learned that Pioli believes "strongly in the draft," but that a team can certainly "complement its roster with free agents."
She appreciated the new GM's acknowledgment that "Herm's players play hard both for him and for themselves...that he coaches with a great deal of passion."
Montana Rae
Montana reported that Pioli admitted that his relationship with Bill Belichick was one that always embodied "a complete collaboration." He said that any disagreement the two had regarding a specific player was always solved with a sense of respect for one another, that there was never a battle of ego.
Shawna Lenee
Shawna added that the two allegedly never argued over it being "his answer or mine, but the right answer" instead.
Valerie Cormier
Miss Cormier asked about Pioli's ability to perhaps find the next Tom Brady or Matt Cassel, to which he responded, "There is no other Tom Brady. There is no other Matt Cassel. They're special football players with special talents."
He added that he only knows this team from afar and is eager to get to know it from within,
that it will take some time to get a grasp of the team, the executives, and all of the members working in it.
Valerie Mazza
Valerie Mazza complemented that report by sharing that Pioli wanted the media to know that this was not a challenge for him to prove he could do this job without Bill Belichick, that it wasn't about him, but it was more so about the right time, the right situation, and about getting this team to win games and win championships.
Vera Jordaneva
Vera's favorite part was when Pioli mentioned that fine-tuning the roster wasn't about finding the best 53 players, but the right 53 players.
She also understood what Pioli meant when he admitted still wishing well for New England, and wishing them success, except for when they play the Kansas City Chiefs.
Yesica Toscanini
Yesica was initially confused when Pioli spoke of the "Patriot way," but eventually understood what he meant when he said that it would become the Chiefs way, a way in which the group works passionately together with hard work, discipline, and within a culture where everyone is on the same page, understands their roles, and believes."
Though this press conference wasn't brought to us by the folks at Gorilla Mask, we'd like to give them a shout for their efforts in the field.
