A Lil' HVD from the HOG; or, Make Like Burger King and Have It Your Way

It's true. All of our blogtastic colleagues out there in the spheres are offering their take on this oft-treasured holiday. We're no different. Better? Sure. Different? Jury's still out. Nevertheless, the collegiate hoops, the hockey, the Combine preparations, the inquistions of HGH injections in the ass...they all come to a stop on good ol' February 14.

Why? We're beyond questions. We simply nod and offer our own HoG-riffic perspective on the goings on of the day that honors Saint Valentine. Still curious? Click that handy link for a gander.

In our completely non-stereotypical view, we assume most of our beloved readership spent the evening in a fashion that resembled something similar to this:

Naturally, if things go well, that leads to a little of this:

But perhaps lady luck (Editor's Note: Pun totally intended) had something else in store and it was another evening filled with grain alcohol and that nephew that can't get enough tickling, such as:

Not to worry. If that's the case, remember that some fellas are out there taking one for the team. Like the dude that lands this keeper:

And of course, that guy's got an edge over the humble gent that mounts this heart-shaped bundle of love:

Either way, tomorrow's a new day, and we're once again, an afternoon closer to Opening Day, the draft, and all of those other things that keep our non-Valentine hearts a-beat. Cheers, gents!

We Are Hot Chicks Wednesday: Workin' Out

Man. It sure is tough to find time for all those everyday things we like to do. I mean there's the start of the hockey season, baseball playoffs, football's in full swing, the new season of South Park just started. Not to mention tickling the little nephew and drinking and a little more nephew, plus, if you can possibly squeeze them in, work, sleep and food are always obnoxious chores to be crossed off of lists. I suppose time with family should be balanced into the equation as well.

One thing, though, that perhaps gets overlooked more often than it should, is exercise. Exercise, while it might not always be fun, should never be sacrificed because of a tight squeeze in time management. That said, a workout should never be rushed either. There are many important items to inventory when gettin' your sweat on. Let's touch on a few.

Stretching

Oft-overrated is the concept of loosening up those muscles.

It's always crucial that attention be paid to both the loosening of the upper- and lower-body muscle groups.

Not to mention that pesky core of lower back muscle groups.

Attire

Workout pros will also advocate the importance of a comfortable outfit.

Something loose but supportive should be considered when selecting appropriate garb.

Hydration

While water is the optimum choice of beverage,

a good energy drink can always give you that extra boost.

Choice of Resistance

Whether you choose a type of Nautilus,

a contrived version of Bow-Flex,

good old-fasioned calisthenics,

and resistance against a stationary object are always invaluable, too.

Feeling it Burn

Whether it's one of your thighs,

or both,

the muscle group known as triceps,

your Pectoralis Major,

your Latissimus Dorsi,

your abdominal muscle groups,

or even those pesky love handles

it's important that you feel those muscles working, be it legs

or lower back.

Hitting the Showers

And when it's all said and done, your well-deserved refresher in the locker room will feel worth every ounce of sweat and soreness.

So hit the gym with confidence, but with plenty of pre- and post-workout preparation. Good luck!

We Are Hot Chicks: Tailgate Candy

With college football kicking off in earnest last week, and the NFL getting underway tomorrow, it's time to thrust together two of the HoG's deepest loves: tailgating and Hot Chicks.

There's a new blog that's been blowing up a bit of late, getting mentions on the Deadspins and W/Leathers of the world. It has possibly the greatest name ever: SEC Poon. Its premise is extremely complicated and vague, in that it shows photographs of tasty college girls on their way to football games. Crazy, those Southerners.

Now on my voyages to this web site, I had an unmistakable feeling of deja poon. I knew many of these girls. Not "knew" like I'd met them, but "knew" like I'd ogled these same pics at some point in the past, on these same YourStubs. Many of the images on SEC Poon are gleaned from a site called Southern Fried Football, which is maintained by some dude named Packman. And I'm sure that Packman is ecstatic that his nickname has been co-opted by one Adam Jones.

Anyway, Packman has this gig wherein he travels to the gridiron cathedrals of the American South and hangs out in parking lots. There he tempts saucy coeds to pose on his golf cart by giving them stickers or something. He has corporate sponsorship for this endeavor. In a way he's much like the mysterious Brooks we visited a few weeks back. Packman, keep up the good work.

If you dig on some college football (standard HoG disclaimer: The BCS is bad and Notre Dame is awesome!) then no doubt you've heard that no brand of the sport can hold a candle to the Southeast Conference. You've no doubt heard this from some toothless inbred coon-ass who can't spell "candle," but that's neither here nor there.

While my SEC experience consists of a trip to Death Valley (the Baton Rouge edition, sorry Clemson) and one to Arkansas (which doesn't really count), I have attended numerous games in the great state of Texas (much of my family went to A&M). And I can say with authority that one huge thing Southern football has over the Midwestern, West Coast and yes, even the Rocky Mountain flavors is this:

The girls.

There are women at every football game, but Southern girls take it to a different level. For one, they like the game and they don't have any ridiculous feminist hangups about it. They dig the traditions and the outdated corniness of stadium rituals. Furthermore, they get their shit together for a game. None of this no-makeup-and-pajamas crap you'll see up North, no sir. These ladies take their tailgate attire serious.

And so, without any further bullshit, here are a bunch of photos of chicks going to football games. Much of it is honest-to-goodness SEC poon all right, but there's some ACC poon as well (sorry about the Jenn Sterger). And here's a little shout-out to tiny Appalachian State, who not only knocked off Michigan but has some fine poon at their school as well.
