Wednesday Night Warning: Step Away From the Franchise. Step. A-WAY. From the Franchise.

I'm not going to spend much time with this, but the Lone Reader appeared from his unidentifiable vortex earlier this evening, and left me a voicemail message. The contents of said message included his understanding of a rumor suggesting that Marty Schottenheimer was seen arriving at Kansas City International Airport, then going directly to Arrowhead Stadium. Now, the Lone Reader is a Canadian, and he likes to have sex with goats while he looks at his Bud Selig montage, so I'm tempted to ignore his information. The tough part of it, though, is that Chris at Arrowhead Addict suggested the same thing earlier this morning. I'm curious because the AP crew seldom rolls without a source, and that's just what they've done in that post, but the defensive side of my brain promptly conjured up one word, and that word is, "NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" That is all.

Let's just remember that Bank's record of running with rumors is spotty.

But a rumor filtered through the steely news judgement of The Lone Reader: there's no way that could be wrong.

Let's get this straight. Someone is just hanging out at the airport. Not catching a flight, not picking someone up, just killing a little time. At the airport. This individual spots Marty deplaning and decides on the spot to jump in his or her car and tail him. Hoo, diggity, we're in hot pursuit. Deputy Coltrane follows Marty's vehicle all the way to One Arrowhead Drive. Now that's some scoop.

So instead of documenting this story with a photograph on the cell phone camera that every single person in America carries in their pocket, or contacting a legitimate news organization to follow up, the Deputy sprinkles it around on the series of tubes.

No wonder newspapers are dying, when such determined and talented reporters are available for free at most Midwestern airports.

Damn ,diggity, hoo-hah, spit on a shoe!.... Ben Bradlee has dropped his Woodward, or Bernstein.
No double sources, so Bank's story won't make that evening edition.
No car chases..puhleeze.
Gotta get that cell-phone pic(William A. White would be so proud).
And finally, journalism's Golden Rule: If you are at the airport and you aren't getting on a plane or gettin' some sweet man/man men's room action.... you really are a piece of shit and got no buissness waking up in the morning scooping serious stories.
Seriously, people at DIA don't just hang out.
They got places to be...you dig?
