Late Night Gloating

No recap here, just the Full Nelson.

The love for the Raiders was boggling. Frequent target of HoG abuse Joe Williams said that, without Marshall, the Broncos stood "no chance" to win in McAfee Coliseum. The Big Lead took Oakland 21-10, and opined that the game would be about Darren McFadden and the Oaktown D.

First game obviously doesn't mean too much, but a 41-14 beatdown in a team's home opener, maybe the only night that team would have been expected to play hard all year, for first place no less, that just feels fine.

And a random beef: The NFL's chattering classes repeatedly identified Nnamdi Asomugha and DeAngelo Hall as the league's best cornerback duo. But...why? Hall was an overrated malcontent in Atlanta, and while Asomugha is a Pro Bowl-level guy, wouldn't you rather have Green Bay's? San Diego's? Denver's?

That pair might jell the rest of the way--there's no doubt Hall's a great athlete--but tonight, DeAngelo's fellow former Hokie Eddie Royal tied him in a knot and threw him in the trash. Try 9 catches for 145 yards and score, not to mention punt return yards (and a smartly recovered fumble).

Sure, it'll only last a week. But for now...

First place, bitches.
