NFL Draft Edition Beta: Catching Up

After recovering from that first round, icing my typing finger and drinking a bunch of cheap beer, I'm ready for a look back at what we have so far.

*Kansas City has had an excellent draft. Yeah, I know. I didn't think it would happen either. But lo, they took that passel of picks and turned it into a more than solid selection of players. Their draft roster looks something like:

1st round, pick #5: Glenn Dorsey DT LSU
1st round, pick #15: Branden Albert OL Virginia
2nd round, pick #4 (35 overall): Brandon Flowers CB Virginia Tech
3d round, pick #10 (73 overall, from Vikings): Jamaal Charles RB Texas
3d round, pick #13 (76 overall, from Lions): Brad Cottam TE Tennessee
3d round, pick #19 (82 overall, from Vikings): DaJuan Morgan S North Carolina State
4th round, pick #6 (105 overall): Will Franklin WR Missouri
5th round, pick #5 (140 overall): Brandon Carr CB Grand Valley State

That's damn good, especially considering the value in the first. Jamaal Charles reminds me a little too much of Tatum Bell, but there's no doubt he can fly. I suggested that the Chefs look at Cottam some time ago--yet more proof that Herm's a regular reader ("Herm-berto"). I also hoped the Broncos would draft Morgan. Too bad there, especially since Denver appears thus far unwilling to take a safety.

On to Denver:

1st round, pick #12: Ryan Clady OT Boise State
2nd round, pick #11 (42 overall): Eddie Royal WR/RS Virginia Tech
4th round, pick #9 (108 overall): Kory Lichtensteiger C Bowling Green
4th round, pick #20 (119 overall, from Redskins): Jack Williams CB Kent State
5th round, pick #4 (139 overall, from Raiders): Ryan Torain RB Arizona State
5th round, pick #13 (148 overall): Carlton Powell DT Virginia Tech

I love Clady, no matter what Mike Kiszla says--even though I would have also been fine with Jonathan Stewart. Royal fills a need, and let's hope they give him time to develop instead of just cutting him the first time he fumbles. Lichtensteiger was a good value and--let's all say it together--fits the system, as do Williams and Powell. No shiny Kansas City paint here, just a few solid wagons hooked to tiny, orange-n-blue mules.

Here's to the Chefs drafting Colt Brennan. It's the least we deserve.
