The HoG One-Year Anniversary Presents "Things We Actually Covered Well": Part One, Baseball

Yes, folks. That's right. Before this second full week of March 2008 comes to a close, the House of Georges will be one year old. Hard to believe. For us even. Twelve months, countless hours at the desktops, and 520 posts later, we've managed to keep this thing rumbling. So, yeah. Happy Birthday to us, and all that crap.

In the midst of all the hookers and cocaine wholesome celebrating and continued efforts at delivering staunch journalism, we're going to insert the good ol' college try at the year's re-cap. If you troll through the archives, dear reader -- and I highly recommend doing so -- one can make the discovery that the HoG spent countless cyber hours of last year covering America's pastime. And it was worth every second. Kind of. Skip past the jump and decide whether or not you agree.

It's no secret that Old No. 7 was the Iron Triangle's baseball guru last year. He spent more time poring over stats and watching/listening to broadcast innings than Cecil and I combined by a long shot. Thus, it's no wonder that he'll dominate the credit roll in this anniversarial installment.

In March, ONS kicked things off in true pre-season fashion with his famous American League West, American League Central, and American League East previews. The amazing part, of course, was that it was done without any bias, foresight, or intuition, whatsoever. Just straight shots in the dark. Too bad he ended up being so damn right. Assface.

Never to fear, upon return from his spring training venture, he gave the NL its due nod; it came in the form of these posts. And they were about as spot on as his AL predictions. Except for the fact that they weren't. But, you know what they say: NL, NFC...who flippin' cares? April's coverage of the diamond stormed on, though, with coverage, of, shocker, Seven's favorite club, and mentions of extraordinary efforts on the mound, which brought us into May, a momentous month, indeed.

I finally joined the baseball gig in the third month of HoG existence, with, shocker, coverage of my favorite club. Problem there was that I don't actually know anything about baseball. So I left it to the experts,

for the most part.

May gave us, among many things, the birth of "Baseball in the Daytime." According to my math (Editor's Note: My math is something you should never trust at face value), the HoG readership was blessed with six regular installments, and one Federal Holiday Edition of BitD. It also gave us more pitching commentary, and perhaps a Red Sox World Series preview, all of which carried us into that blissful June.

This merry month gave us ten more installments of BitD, a dandy of an MLB draft preview, an insider's look at college ball, a totally unbiased take on cheaters/overrated Hispanics (Note: Or underrated, depending on with whom you side), a live GameBlog, which tickled the nephews of both Cecil and Seven, a rather back country take on Royals baseball, and, last but not least, Baseball in the Dadtime, a collaboration between Cecil and myself.

July, of course, brought us into the thick of baseball. With it came ten more installments of BitD, another holiday installment, a Cec-arian politico-economic take on baseball ( with heated commentary), mid-season report cards on the AL West, Central, East, as well as the NL West, Central, and East, each of which featured guest interviewees. Also in July, the HoG delivered an All-Star game preview, a little more bumpkinball, and another collaboration between Cecil and I. Needless to say, it was a busy month of baseball. Never fear, however, the HoG steamrolled right into August with more dayBall than ever before, and some nightBall, too.

With the regular season inching toward an end, the HoG delivered 19 BitD installments, and threw in a surprise episode of baseball in the nighttime. In addition to all that, there was more Roy to be had, and another solo Cecil baseball musing.

But we weren't done yet. I know. And, we're a football-based blog, right? Well, whatever. September, was equally busy. Still one more federal holiday edition, flanked by nine regular installments of BitD, a Cialis-laden stiffy over playoff baseball being around the corner, and of course, celebration/preview of the one-game playoff non-playoff game that was to be.

All of this work, of course, led us to that great bullpen in the sky, October baseball. This of course was launched, and perhaps capped, with the mega-output, 37-post marathon that would become known as "Let's Play 163." It also gave us two installments of October BitD, a never-to-be-missed/overlooked stab at the Yankees, World Series coverage of games one and two, (Note: The series, in case you forgot, pitted Seven's two favoritish teams against one another, a situation with which he allegedly had no problem), and then our beloved baseball guru was off to the mile-high city to take in some October baseball in the nighttime from the ol' live perspective, which left us only with the bitter words of Cecil, to cover the bitter end.

And, well, we were wiped out. So we took November off. From baseball, that is. Actually, who are we kidding? We took substantial portions of the entire winter off. Cecil, however, did throw out some baseball, HoG-style in December, here and here.

We found January, to be, er, uh...mildly uneventful, so we saved this goodie and this one, too, for February. And of course there's this absolute gem, as well.

And there you have it, kids. An entire year of HoG baseball highlights, brought to you, whether you like it or not, by the House of Georges anniversary committee.

I'll bet writing that took longer than I've spent on any post. Hell, reading it took longer than I've ever spent on any post.

I can't fucking wait for the soccer retrospective...

Yeah. I can't wait for it either, largely because I won't be having anything to do with it. Second thought, nor will anyone.
