Baseball In The Daytime: 9-10-07

I know, it's really hard to give a hoot about the baseball following the gluttonous NFL orgy we witnessed yesterday. Denverites, while you revel in your improbable Bronco triumph (more on that in a bit), don't forget that your Rockies are still in the midst of what might be their best season ever. Kansas City sports fans, instead of slashing your wrists over your putrid Chefs, remember that a scrapping young team is still in action at the Kauff. And if you live in Florida, God help ya. 0-3 in pro football, two shitty baseball teams. I hope it's sunny today, and no hurricanes are bearing down on your miserable asses.

One makeup game takes place this afternoon, from the old Friendly Confines snuggled in a city block bounded by Waveland, Sheffield, Addison and Clark.

The Cardinals visit the Cubs at 1:20 Mountain, I guess because it rains sometimes in the Midwest. Although both teams are still in the thick of the NL Central race, the Brewers shot back into first over the weekend, while these fans were watching the Bears and the Rams lose (how bout them Packers?). Chicago is a game back of Milwaukee while the Redbirds sit a trio of contests behind. I guess Ben Sheets might have made a difference after all, eh?

The Cubs still have the horses to make it to October, but St. Louise is done. I'm still waiting for another drug- or alcohol-related controversy to emerge from Tony LaRussa's filthy clubhouse of malfeasance. Joel Piniero takes the ball for the Cards, while Ted Lilly is your designated hurler for the Cubs. I have no broadcast information whatsoever, so happy hunting and Cheers!
